Fretwork

Frets are an intricate and very important part of any instrument. The size and material will have a great impact on your sound and the feel of your guitar. A high-quality job is imperative for both the playability of the guitar and the life of the frets. All our fretwork includes the cost of a full setup to ensure maximum service & playability.

When we’re talking about levelling frets, this isn’t the ‘fret level’ that many places offer, which I call ‘fret-skimming’. This is an actual level and dress with measurements taken of the instrument strung up at full tension, the tips of the frets lightly levelled, and then each one properly crowned for a crisp centre contact point. We know there’s more to comfortable frets and playability than just having them all the same height.

We use an excellent standard of nickel-silver fret wire, and sizes can be discussed and selected per job. There’s no stainless steel option in this workshop, but other choices like the Jescar wire can be used if preferred.
